The Multiple Earths

as described by Fairchild Zor'El and SharonBest

The Web Page that I call the Aurora Universe has been created to tell the story of events occuring in multiple parallel dimensions, or universes, each of which contains similiar basic characteristics, but each of which has some unique differences in their histories or in the people who live in them. If you Terrans were able to move from dimension to dimension, as Arions and we Velorians are capable of doing under some circumstances, you would certainly not find yourself on an alien world or a totally unfamiliar world. But things might be twisted around just a bit. (And you wonder why I'm confused sometimes!)

But the real reason I have broken my Universe out this way is to help eliminate confusion between story lines. For example, my friend Kara, appears in many of my stories, but with slightly different histories and even slightly different appearances and personalities, but they are all the same amazing young woman. She appears as Kara Matthews (aka SuperGirl) on Earth/1 and she took the name Kara Zor'El (aka SuperFemme) on Earth/3. I rather like the fact that she used her real last name on Earth/3 (all Protectors have the last name of Zor'El) instead of that silly Matthews name she had in Earth/1, but Kara can be rather whimsical at times.

But she is always the same person, just with slightly different physical forms and slightly different personalities in each one. If you knew her, you'd understand. She can be a bit difficult and confusing at times, always reinventing herself in an attempt to gain new experiences, and sometimes impulsively making decisions with far-reaching consequences on the spur of the moment. But she is such a dear and goodhearted friend, I have trouble truly criticizing her.

Sharon's Note: It is important to note that the initial conditions were different enough in each dimension, on each of the Earths, and that those differences have shaped each dimension's history in subtlety different ways. And shaped the people I describe from each universe.

Sometimes it seems like I am the only truly stable person here, but then, I'm more inclined to be a Scribe nowadays than to be involved in the action. It's one of the restrictions I had to accept when I left Velor. On the other hand, some of my closest friends insist that I AM all the differing characters on these various Earths. I do have some secrets to be sure, and I wish I knew everything there was to know about my true birthright. My friends who know both sides of me accept both for what they are and I just keep the rest of you guessing. In reality, there is a lot I really don't know about myself. I mean, how much do any of us ever truly know about our ancestors other than what our parents tell us?

I only know that I can do some rather amazing things when I want to, and if you read my stories, you will quickly learn how a Supremis might use her gifts. And on that little note of introspection, how about a guided tour?

Earth/1

This Earth has a history and timeline identical to the reality that most of us live in today, it is the world that you, the reader, are familiar with. It, along with most of Earth/3, are the two real universes I write about.

But I have clarified several key background elements to your world that you may or may not be familiar with. After all, your mythology has become very confused. Not to mention your theology!

The Elder Ones. A race of ancient Gods who have competed with the Ancient Ones (described in the next section) to influence the development of intelligent life on Earth. They are largely absent now, but a small group of followers still study their lore, yet do not truly worship them. Janissa is one of those that follow them. Openly, Janissa has appeared only in Earth/2 and /3, but in fact, Janissa lives, cloaked in her secret identity, right here on Earth/1 in Northern California.

The Elder Ones, like the Ancient Ones, were very involved in human development from the earliest Greek Civilization up through about 1200 AD or so. TheirTerran influence is far less today; their concentration is focused on other races in distant reaches of the Galaxies. I figure they'd done about as much as they could with the Terran race, my people included.

The lore of the Elders is best characterized as being in the domain that many people would call 'magic' today. Not that 'magic' is in any way real, but they concentrated on increasing the power of the mind as opposed to the body, and their followers manage to achieve some effects that many would call 'magical.' Drawing on the powers that lurk between the various dimensions, or Universes, they can perform some remarkable feats. And unfortunately, we Velorians are as suspectible to their power as any Terran. I found this out just when I was getting adjusted to being pretty much invulnerable. I've flown face first through a hail of bullets and my skin has been heated to incandescence by high power lasers (a bit embarrassing when one's clothing vaporizes) and I've flown through the hard vacuum of space and skimmed beneath the surface of a sun. But their magic laid me out like a Aspen tree before the onslaught of an avalanche.

The Ancient Ones. A race of spacefaring 'gods' who have been tinkering with the human genome for 5000 years or more in an attempt to improve our genetics. Many humans who were enhanced by these Ancient Ones have been called 'Gods' themselves. These 'Gods from human stock', actually my ancient predecessors, have been written about by other authors for dozens of centuries. In fact, their works gained popularity starting with the Greek Civilization and continued through the Roman and into the Norse civilizations. These legends, or chronicles, are fairly consistent with each other, most of them telling the stories of those of us that the Ancient Ones had returned to Earth in the early years, ostensibly so we could help foster the emerging civilizations. Unfortunately, their initial attempts to create us as 'gods' in their own image did not fare well, as our minds and emotions were still too tightly tied to those of you who were now supposed to worship us. Greed, arrogance and pride were our ugly downfall. Thank goodness that phase has passed! Life is simpler when one doesn't have to stand on a pedestal and pose. Although there are times with a lover when I... but that's another story.

Recognizing their failures, the Ancient Ones selected the most perfect physical specimens they could from whatever civilization they happened to be working with at the time. In my case, the Norse Civilization around 200 AD. They removed us from Earth to begin an experiment at improving the physical capabilities of our race. Given the nature of their experiments, they sought out planets where they could be isolated and where their progeny would be free from the temptations to misuse their powers. They located one group of genetic engineering laboratories on a beautiful planet they named Velor and began to find ways to extend the human genome's physical abilities via an advanced scientific process. At the same time, they worked to create the Velorian Civilization, one that is based on a strong sense of order along with an emphasis on the equality of all men, and on the concept of nurturing and protecting weaker races. They attempted to create us as the Protector Race. It is a name I don't care much for, so you will see me use the popular name of my race in my chronicles. We are simply The Velorians.

It has also been speculated that the Ancient Ones had other intentions for some of us; females in particular. Otherwise, why would they have introduced some rather strange 'weaknesses' into our genetic structure? While I'm not about to describe all my problems here (they can be rather embarrassing at times), I have tried to describe them through my stories. It is a strange weakness, and one that would be most unusual to introduce into a Protectorate race, a race of Warriors. On the other hand, many people believe that it was simply a mistake. But given the care they put into the rest of our genetics, I don't think the Ancient Ones made many mistakes. But then, that's just my opinion. I haven't had the privilege of meeting one of my gods to ask him myself.

Despite the confusion, it was always clear to my ancestors that the Ancient Ones intended eventually to send us back out into the universe to help the development of the many civilizations that were emerging. But before they could complete our development to their satisfaction, a conflict for power between them and the Elder Ones broke out in a far corner of the galaxy and both of these ancient and powerful races shifted their attention away from the human genome to pursue the more important task of overwhelming each other. Perhaps someday I will be able to write that story, although it will only be based on the fragmentary images and bits of information that are just now finding their way back to Velor. It takes a long time for information to travel millions of light years, even with FTL transmission techniques. It's also a real hassle to get even that given the scant updates that are available on Velor down here to Earth. Whether you know it or not, you Terrans are completely outside the normal information flows that travel between populated planets. But there are reasons for that, ones you will discover in my chronicles.

As a result of this far-away conflict, there have been no reported contacts between an Elder and an Ancient One since 1200AD, at least in any of the portions of the galaxy that human descendents now inhabit. Forging our way the best we could, the humanoid races, the humans of Earth, the Protectors of Velor and the militant warriors of Aria, have continued on our way. Furthermore, despite the conflicts that constantly occur between Velor and Aria, the homes of the Homo Supremis, there is a special relationship between Velorian and Terran, one that I hope to be able to describe properly in my stories. It is also one that is inherently difficult to describe and one that many people have trouble believing. There have been various attempts to try to explain it, the crude comicbooks that you see are the result of influencing a group of writers and artists, but that is an ineffective means of communication. Hopefully my Web Page can be of further help.

On the other hand, the essentially hidden nature of Supremis intervention on Earth makes it hard to make anyone believe, especially given the creativity of your Hollywood movie industry. If I were to fly over your head or bench-press an armored truck over my head or perform some equally fantastic feat, even standing right in front of you, you'd probably look for the wires and special effects or wonder if you were stuck in some virtual reality simulation. Which is good in a way. You are conditioned to not believe and according to the Prime Directive, you are not supposed to believe. Not yet anyway. Which is why everything you read on my Page is a work of fiction. Officially anyway.

Anyway, back to my descriptions of the events that have led up to our current history. Since the time of our creation, the slowly growing Homo Supremis race has spread across several worlds and has split into two competing camps, the warlike and aggressive Arions and the more peaceful Velorians. My people. Actually, the aggression is on both sides, as we are most capable of warfare. While we Velorians have retained greater physical powers (due to an unfortunate virus that infected all of Aria and reduced their powers), the Arions have far greater technical abilities. Especially in terms of weapons. In that way, they are closer to you Terrans.

A huge battle is now being fought in multiple dimensions between our two peoples, both of us rightly calling ourselves Homo Supremis. The battle ranges across hundreds of lightyears of space, but a small brushfire conflict is being fought on Earth where the Arion High Command is attempting to destabilize Terran political systems with the goal of getting you to destroy yourselves. It's just a small part of their long campaign against Velor. After all, most of my brothers and sisters look to the Earth with great fondness as the mystical planet that was the source of whatever natural genetic material we still possess. It is also believed to be the true origin of all humanoid life in the galaxies. Although not everyone accepts that fact, the Arions in particular. They like to think of you as weak creatures to be crushed and destroyed, not as their genetic forebearers. Personally, I've been to Stockholm and I've wandered the high country of Sweden. I know where my roots lie.

Anyway, despite our physical power and technology, we are very reluctant to overtly announce our presence on your Earth. While the Arions easily have the capability to mount an Independence Day-type assault with powerful weapons, they still correctly fear the Ancient Ones, afraid they will return and punish them for their meddling on Earth. Instead, they attempt to get you Terrans to 'do it to yourselves' while the rest of us, your Protectors, attempt to stop them. Also without a hugely visible show of force.

We are forced into such subtle actions because the most important commandment that the Ancient Ones left for the Arions and ourselves, our Prime Directive, was that we NOT interfere with the emerging civilization on Earth. Your planet, among all the worlds in the galaxy, was to be left strictly alone until they returned to determine its future. And as you have certainly noticed from your continued strife and warfare and disease, they have obviously not returned as of the time these stories are written.

My initial chronicles, The Adventures of Aurora, takes place on your world and in your own timeline. It is an attempt to describe some personal experiences and changes I have gone through, and those of some of the people I have met. In reality, my sisters' relationships with your people are far more obscure and secretive than I describe in my stories (that damned Prime Directive once again). But even a supergirl can dream, can't I? Maybe some day my personal actions can be as open and public as the ones I describe in my stories.

Earth/3

This is the Earth that my current story-telling efforts are focused on and where I will chronicle the exploits of the Protectors for some time. This world, like Earth/1, is based in reality and not fantasy. You won't see the fanciful comic-bookish themes of Earth/2 and Earth/4. It is similiar to Earth/1 except that it had no Protector assigned until my friend Kara arrived on it. The Arions were also not very active here until very recently. On the other hand, as you may have noticed from all the UFO activity, they've been snooping around for a long time.

As the story line unfolds, we find that our heroine, Kara Zor'El, does not actually belong here at all. She was killed ten years or so before in a pocket universe that I will give the tongue in cheek name of Earth/DC. (I'm not the only one who has some inside knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes. The agents of the Elder Ones, people like Janissa, have been influencing the minds of creative writers for generations. It was rather interesting that one of their followers decided to influence the emerging Comics industry back in the 1940's and 50's. I wasn't sure if that was supposed to be a joke or not, but she certainly paved the way for the true Protectors of Earth. Even if they did name their planet after an element in your Periodic Table.)

Anyway, back to reality. Two members of a powerful race of spider-like spacefaring aliens attempt to revive Kara, but due to their ineptness and some accidents with the FTL engines on their starship, they succeeded in dumping Kara on Earth/3 around 1250AD. They dropped her right into the middle of an Anasazi Indian settlement near what will someday be the Arizona/Utah border. She also arrived without any memories of her previous life, nor of her death while fighting beside her male cousin in that other dimension. I guess we can forgive her for that -- she was dead for ten years after all! But we Velorians are made of some pretty tough stuff, although you would never know it by looking at us when we are dressed for a party.

Anyway, after spending some time with the Anasazi, Kara was just beginning to regain some of her memories when she was zapped by an anti-matter ray (for the second time) and 'killed'. She's always had such bad luck! Anyway, one thing that we learned a long time ago was that the body and soul were both separable and recombinable, something Kara is getting rather good at exploiting. You call it reincarnation; we call it 'getting a life'. Given that Kara keeps getting clumsily killed, she's gotten pretty good it, the poor girl. Unfortunately, in the book KaraZ, she was only able to merge with a young Protector, a girl who was severely injured back on Velor, her memories and personality erased by a powerful Magneto-Tachyon field. She arrived on your Earth in the 1980's as a 12-year old girl. But she was still a true supergirl, and she was every bit a Protector... just the youngest Protector to ever leave Velor. You can follow her life through the pages of the KaraZ stories.

Hope you enjoy reading my chronicles. Someday, when everyone accepts the truth about our Protectorate of the Earth, we can make this into a movie. Or maybe I'll dress in my red and blues and walk into your Congress or your UN and you can see me on CNN. Wouldn't that be a gas!
